Hooded Grasshopper.

Hooded Grasshopper
There are many curious animals all over the world, and several are often seen in magazines or blogs due to their unusual looks. Unfortunately, they are not well-studied organisms, despite their attractiveness.

Little green riding hood.

One of such animals is the hooded grasshopper, Teratodes monticollis. Native to Sri Lanka and India, it has a nice green color and an expansion on its pronotum (the upper portion of the first segment of the thorax) that resembles a hood, hence the name. The border of the hood is marked by a nice yellow stripe, making it even more beautiful.

Despite its beauty, however, the hooded grasshopper is not a lovely insect. It is known as a pest that attacks the sandalwood, feeding on its leaves.
